How to Hang TV Stands

You just purchased your new flat panel TV, but can't decide where to put it. Hanging a flat panel TV on the wall has become a very popular spot. Hanging your flat panel TV on the wall like a picture not only saves a lot of space, but it also gives a nice look to the room. Hanging TV stands is a relatively easy process, but you still need a few special tools and a general knowledge of home repair.

Instructions

    1

Decide what wall to hang the TV stand. Choose a wall with studs because studs are ultimately where you're going to hang the TV stand. Walls with no studs increase the risk of the TV stand falling because of the weight. Studs provide sturdy support that you cannot get with a regular wall.

    2

Locate the studs by either using a stud finder or by knocking on the wall until you don't hear a hollow sound.

    3

Mark with a pencil where you want the TV stand to hang. Don't use a pen because you might change your mind later; erasing a pencil mark is obviously easier than erasing a pen mark. Ideal viewing height is center line of the TV screen equal to eye level when sitting.

    4

Double-check the pencil marks; make sure they are level. Don't eyeball the marks; use a level to ensure accuracy. Take this time to also double-check that the marks on the wall are on studs.

    5

Drill heavy-gauge screws into the spots on the wall you marked. Regular screws probably won't support the weight. Once the heavy-gauge screws are drilled, double-check and make sure the screws are level.

    6

Attach all media devices and cables to the TV. Most stands won't provide enough room to maneuver behind the TV once it's hanging on the wall.

    7

Hang the TV on the stand. If you have a large or heavy TV, have someone help you pick it up. Be careful not to step or trip on any wires. If you have a lot of wires, you might need a third person to hold the wires away from your feet.
