How to Use a Wooden Easel As a Television Stand

Purchase a sturdy art-studio easel. Make sure that the easel is made of a solid wood, such as oak. Avoid pressed wood easels, which may not be sufficient for holding the weight of the television.

Assemble the wooden easel according to the package directions. To avoid a wobbly easel---and thus, a precarious television stand---make sure that every screw and bolt has been screwed in tightly.

If the easel has an adjustable bracket at the top for securing a canvas, remove it until after you have mounted the television. If this feature is positioned correctly after the television is installed, it will fit snugly atop the television.

Assemble the wall mount kit according to the directions on the package. Most wall mount kits come with all of the necessary hardware, but if necessary, metric screws can be purchased from a local hardware store.

Lay a bed sheet on a flat surface and place the flat panel television on top of it with the screen facing down. To avoid damaging the screen, do not put direct pressure on the back of the television.

Attach the wall mount brackets to the back of the flat panel television according to the directions.

Affix the wall mount to the easel with bolts. If possible, connect the wall mount to the sides of the easel rather than to the the top wooden support.

Position the easel near an electrical outlet, and in a place where it will not be easily jostled or knocked over.

Hang the television onto the easel with care. Recheck the mounting to make sure that everything is secure, and slide the top bracket back onto the easel so that it fits snugly atop the TV and appears to hold it in place. If needed, secure the easel to the wall with a securing strap. This will give the easel more support and prevent it from tipping over.
