How to Design a TV Room

How to Design a TV Room

A TV room can be a place to escape the distractions of everyday life or a place for the kids to play video games and watch their favorite shows without distracting you. You can spend thousands of dollars having a TV room professionally built or create your own inexpensively. Replicate a movie theater with a DVD player and a big-screen TV, or simply add comfortable seating for family night in front of the television. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Install adjustable lighting. Lights can be turned down low for a romantic evening or a movie theater experience, or kept bright for kids' cartoon watching.

    2

Make sure each seating area has a coffee table or end tables nearby for drinks and snacks.

    3

Set up surround-sound speakers for a true theater experience. Standard stereo speakers can be hooked up to the television, or multi-piece speaker systems can be installed around the room.

    4

Buy comfortable chairs and sofas. Install stadium seating if you have the resources. With stadium seating, viewers in the second row of chairs don't have to deal with trying to see around the heads of the people seated in front of them.

    5

Create a snack area with a mini fridge and a popcorn machine. Keep the fridge stocked with cold drinks.

    6

Hang blackout curtains to create the feel of a theater for daytime television watching. Consider soundproofing the walls by installing fabric wall coverings backed by batting.

    7

Build a platform and strew comfortable cushions and pillows on it for kids, or for adults who like to stretch out when they are viewing TV.

    8

Hide the television in an armoire or entertainment center with doors so the room can be used for other purposes if you have limited space and can't dedicate a room solely to television viewing. Use hidden storage to house your DVD and tape collections.
