How to Arrange a Room Witha TV

How to Arrange a Room Witha TV

Whether your family watches TV frequently or rarely, it's likely that you're one of the 99 percent of American households with at least one television in your residence. As common as TVs are, however, they can still present a problem when it comes to arranging your furniture around them. Satellite and cable TV cords, power cords and DVD players often create a tangled nest of wires that require your television be placed in a specific spot. There's no need to despair though. You can arrange your TV room in an attractive fashion with a little forethought and effort. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Assess the availability of electrical outlets, and ensure that you have enough open ones so you can insert the plugs for all the required paraphernalia when deciding where to place your TV. When you live in an older house with fewer outlets, you may need to purchase a power strip to accommodate plugs for DVD players, VCRs, the TV and cable and satellite boxes.

    2

Attach a long enough cable or satellite cord to allow you to position your TV in the exact spot where you want it. Cable and satellite TV Installers often provide you with the shortest length of cable possible, however, you can pick up a longer one at a nearby home improvement, electronic or big box store.

    3

Place your television or entertainment center in a prominent position in the room. Choose an empty space and position the TV high enough so that the view is available and unobstructed from any seat in the room without requiring occupants to crane their necks to see it.

    4

Position your largest pieces of furniture first. A sectional, sofa or pit group takes up the most room and works well centered in direct alignment with the television. Once you have it in the chosen position, you can arrange the rest of the furniture around it.

    5

Place recliners, rockers and stationary chairs around the walls on either side of the sofa. Ensure that each piece has a clear and direct view of the television.

    6

Position tables in strategic spots so viewers can place popcorn, drinks and other snacks on them easily. Allow two chairs to share an end table that's positioned between them. Place a coffee table in front of the sofa to allow all of the occupants to access it easily.

    7

Arrange table and floor lamps so that each section of the room receives an adequate amount of lighting. Install a dimmer switch to control overhead lighting for those nights when you want to watch TV with minimal lighting to set the mood.
