How to Build Projection TV Stands

How to Build Projection TV Stands

If the budget is tight when deciding which projection TV to purchase, consider building your own projection TV stand to ease the stress on the pocketbook. Do-it-yourself consumers are at the top of their game by accomplishing projects such as TV stands. Not only do you save money, but you also get to decide what type of wood goes into the stand. This also means the type of finish on the stand is your choice. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Place the 74-inch (top shelf) piece and one of the 70 1/2-inch (middle shelf) pieces on a worktable. Mark the center of each on one long edge and put the edges against each other, aligning the marks. The top shelf is 3 1/2 inches longer than the middle shelf, so 1 3/4 inches of it will extend beyond each end of the middle shelf.

    2

Measure from the left end of the middle shelf and make marks at 11 1/4, 12, 35 5/8, 36 3/8, 60 and 60 1/4 inches. Put the framing square on the marks and draw lines across both pieces. Drill three pilot holes between the lines with the 1/16-inch drill bit. Drill a hole 1-inch from the front and back edges, respectively, and one in the center.

    3

Turn the middle shelf over and place the remaining 70 1/2-inch piece (bottom shelf) on the worktable. Push the two together so the long edges are touching and the ends are even. Measure from the left end and make marks at 18 and 18 3/4 inches. Repeat this from the right side.

    4

Put the framing square on the marks and draw lines across both shelves. Drill pilot holes as before. Next, set the two 24 1/4-inch pieces (sides) on the worktable. Measure from one 10-inch edge (becomes the top) and make marks at 9 and 9 3/4 inches. Set the framing square on the marks and draw lines across the width of the sides. Drill pilot holes as before.

    5

Run a bead of glue on one end of the 9-inch pieces (dividers). Secure them between the lines on the middle shelf with the finish nails.

    6

Apply glue to the ends of the bottom and middle shelves. Secure the shelves to the sides with the finish nails. Next, apply glue to the ends of the 13 3/4-inch pieces and secure them between the shelves on the lines drawn with the finish nails.

    7

Align the top with the dividers by the lines drawn. Spread some glue between the lines and secure the top to the dividers with the finish nails. Turn the TV stand over and let the top hang off the edge of the worktable. Run some glue on the exposed edges, put the 72-inch piece of plywood on the stand and secure it with the box nails. Clean up the excess glue with a damp cloth.
