How to Recycle And Repurpose Furniture To Make A TV Stand And Media Storage

Recycling and reusing furniture pieces to use as a TV stand or media storage center is a great way to save money and keep items out of our landfills. A typical TV stand or media storage cabinet can cost hundreds of dollars at a store. Mine cost $5.00 plus the cost of paint! This is a sturdy, thrifty and attractive alternative to flimsy pressboard stands.

Instructions

    1

First, you will need to decide what size furniture you will need. Determine the size you will need by measuring the width of the area that you will put your media storage cabinet in. If your television is mounted on the wall, be sure to measure the height of the TV to the floor so that you don't get something that is too tall for the space.

Now it's time to go shopping! First, check around your house to see if you can repurpose an item that you already have. If not, then check Craigslist, thrift stores and yard sales. Be sure to use your measurements as a guide. Appropriate items to look for are dressers, buffets and small armoires. Expect to pay anywhere from $5.00 to $25.00.

Next, you will need to paint your furniture. Apply a coat of primer and allow to dry for 1 hour. Now apply one coat of your paint of choice. Allow to dry for 1 hour. Apply a second coat of paint. Allow to dry for 1 hour. Add new hardware and your TV stand/media storage cabinet is complete.

Place DVD's, CD's and games in the drawers. If you have any peeling paint from opening drawers, just touch up and allow to dry overnight.
