How to Refinish a Pingpong Table

Pingpong is similar to a miniature version of tennis usually played with two paddles and a special ball. As with anything in your home that gets a lot of use, the surface of a pingpong table might get damaged and need to be refinished. Instead of purchasing a new table, consider refinishing it yourself.

Remove the net and any legs that are attached to the table. Use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the legs.

Place a layer of newspaper or tarp in an well-ventilated or outdoor area. Tape the sides of the ping-pong table with the painter's tape. Place the table on the tarp.

Spray the entire surface of the table with the chalkboard spray paint. Spray it on in an steady fashion to coat the surface evenly. Allow the spray paint to completely dry.

Measure 3/4-inch from the edge of the table all along the perimeter and place painter's tape at these marks to create a 3/4-inch wide strip. Paint a strip of white paint on the table surface in the space you created. Allow the paint to dry, and pull off the painter's tape from the table.

Find the center of both the short side and long side of the table. Place painter's tape on the table to create a 3/4-inch gap across the table surface on the long side and a 1/8-inch gap across the table surface on its short side. The gaps should form a cross, corresponding to the table's center lines (one in each direction). Paint these spaces with white paint. Allow the paint to dry and remove the tape.

Remove any remaining tape and reinstall the net and the legs.
